Motor Vehicle Owner’s Right to Repair Act      H.R. 2048

For anyone in the repair business, no single issue has generated as much interest as the Motor Vehicle Owner’s Right to Repair Act.    Some organizations do not believe this legislation is necessary; however some observations lead us to believe they are in the minority.   SSDA-AT has submitted written testimony and attended every hearing on this bill.  Please read the facts and see where you stand.

Current automotive technology is being used to successfully “lock out” car owners from being able to repair and maintain their own vehicles. Modern automobiles contain many computers that control virtually every component such as the braking system, steering mechanism, air bags, ignition, and the climate control system. When lacking the ability to “talk” to the car’s computers, the owners or their auto technicians cannot accurately diagnose and repair mechanical problems

Later model cars can only be serviced and repaired at automobile dealerships, which makes it impossible to shop around for the best price and most convenient service locations.

Without the ability to choose, consumers are denied competitive prices and the right to choose where, how, and when to have their vehicles repaired at affordable prices and convenient locations.

The following questionnaire shows the problems of not having access to information & tools to repair vehicles.   Please fill out and fax to the number on the bottom of the forms or to SOGGDA @937-890-9670.
